Overture Center for the Arts brings back the free local music series Overture After Work, beginning with Joel Paterson and the Modern Sounds, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm on Thursday, September 16, in Overture Hall Lobby at Overture Center for the Arts, 201 State Street, Madison.  Doors will open at 4:30 pm.

Classic rockabilly, blues and jazz will be the sounds you will hear from Overture Center’s beautiful lobby, with plenty of seating for friends, co-workers and family members. Joel Paterson was raised on the near east-side of Madison, and now calls Chicago home. With Beau Sample, bass and vocals; Alex Hall, drums and vocals, the band will get you on your feet and swinging to the music.

Overture After Work is growing every year, and a new addition to this season is an arts and craft sale. This month we feature Absolutely Art, a community-based gallery located on Atwood Avenue in Madison. Visitors will be able to browse and enjoy a mini-art show and purchase work from local artists.  For more information about Absolutely Art, go to their website, www.absolutelyartllc.com.

In addition, each show throughout the series shines a spotlight on a local nonprofit organization. The featured organization to open the season is Porchlight, Inc., providing emergency shelter, food, employment services, counseling, and affordable housing to homeless people in the Dane County area. In addition, Porchlight Inc. will be selling Porchlight Products, a unique business that works to make positive changes in our community by providing training for a variety of job and life skills to people with a wide range of disabilities. Specialty items include jams, jellies, marmalades, pickles and sauerkraut. Visit the community organization table in the Lobby during Overture After Work, or log on to www.porchlightinc.org  to learn more.

Overture After Work offers free music by local talents every month through April 2011. Special foods provided by Catering a Fresco will be available for purchase. For more information view the season line up and menu offerings at www.overturecenter.com/community/overture-after-work.  In addition, Overture After Work will be offering beer selections from Wisconsin Distributors, including Bud Light, Fat Tire and 312 Goose Island.  Catering a Fresco will also have a complete wine selection and mixed drinks for purchase.

Overture After Work is sponsored by Knupp Watson & Wallman. Additional support provided by Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission , Arts Access Fund, a component fund of the Madison Community Foundation; and Overture Friends  and contributors to the Ovation Fund.
