Show runs 9/1/10-9/30/10

Absolutely Art & Café Zoma are proud to present Claudia Striley, Jo Simons and Russ Gardner as our featured artists for September. Hayward Williams will provide the music: http://www.haywardwilliams.com/.

Claudia Striley is a native Madisonian, and has enjoyed the artistic inspiration available in her community and in her travels.  Claudia experiments with realistic, symbolic and abstract subject matter, using a combination of etching and Prismacolors. She adds watercolor, acrylics, colored pencils, and inks as the spirit moves her. The etching process adds the sense of touch to her work, and she follows the natural wrinkles and crevices in the paper and defines them further to add texture and depth to her pieces.

Instead of condemning used paper cups purchased at various cafes in and around Madison to the recycling bin, Jo Simons and Russ Gardner realized these unique “canvasses” could indeed be, well—art!  The themes are mostly humorous ones, but sometimes they echo serious concerns too.  Works include 3-D stand-ups and 2-D wall hangings.  Proceeds from their sales will go to the Community Music School’s (214 A. S. Baldwin St.) scholarship program, where Jo is the Founder and Director.

We hope you can join us for what is sure to be a fantastic night of art and music!

Images of the work are available upon request.
