If you don't find what you are looking for in our extensive inventory, we can usually find it for you at a reasonable price. Our experienced staff will give you personal attention and thorough evaluations of your coins or coin-needs right in our store. We also offer appraisals for insurance purposes or just to see how much your collection is worth. Our appraisal usually takes the form of our offer to purchase. We inventory your collection, coin by coin, and tell you what we would pay for each item. If you decide to sell the majority of coins, we do not charge any fee for the appraisal. If you decide not to sell, we charge $35 per hour. If you decide to sell at a later point in time, we will refund the appraisal fee. If the appraisal takes less than ten minutes, there is no charge. If you mention Buy Local, we will offer a free 30-mintute appraisal. |
HistoryJim's Coins owner, James Essence, has been a collector for 22 years, and has been a coin dealer for the past 15 years. James got his start in Numismatics at age five by going with his dad to the bank to visit the safety deposit box which held a small collection of gold coins that have been passed down in the family. Almost 30 years ago Len Roosmalen opened the doors to his coin store in Madison. At that time he met a very young James and since those early days Len encouraged James' enthusiasm in numerous ways and became a significant mentor in all areas of numismatics. Born and raised in Madison, James attended several colleges including UW-Madison and eventually graduated from University of California at Berkeley. James financed his education by buying and selling coins at national shows, gaining depth in knowledge of issues involved in coin collecting and dealing. In 2002 James began working for Len at his shop with the idea to eventually purchase the business which occurred in 2003. Since then Len and James have been serving the Greater Madison area in all their coin and stamp collecting needs. Over the years James has served the numismatic hobby in many ways. He is past vice-president of the Madison Coin Club, served as dealer chairman of the Madison coin show, and has won numerous national exhibit and literary awards. James has also been interviewed on National Public Radio, as well as local TV and radio stations covering various topics of numismatics. |
