ProductsI create original designs that ARE Wisconsin on T shirts, sweat shirts, mugs, tote bags, aprons, prints and note cards. Generations of my family have loved the landmarks, landscapes and plants in this area and this love of place inspires what I create – from shirts or cards featuring Madison landmarks or Wisconsin farm scenes, to close up photos of favorite flowers. Hand screen printed designs and original photographs are also featured on note cards. |

PhilosophyIt is important to me to support local businesses and each business I work with to reproduce my designs was recommended to me by someone in Madison who had worked with them previously on similar projects. I have very high standards about how my artwork is reproduced and it has always been my desire that anything I don’t do myself be done locally so that I know who is doing it and can be closely in touch to maintain quality. I print my own photos on an archival printer in my studio at home. Hand silk screened cards are also printed by me in my studio at home. Commercial reproduction of designs is done at local businesses: cards – Port to Print, Madison; shirts – Royal T Promotions, Madison (previously, no longer in business), Top Promotions, Middleton, currently. |

HistoryI began screen printing when I was in junior high school. Over the years my designs increased in complexity and eventually a friend suggested I might expand my offerings by having shirts printed from my designs. Two years ago I retired, after a 20 year career as a researcher at UW-Madison and decided I wished to emphasize my graphic arts work so created R. V. James Designs, LLC and set up a website for my work. I get great joy from creating designs that reflect my love of plants, Madison and Wisconsin. |
