HistoryKris and I started Bear Courage Pediatric Palliative Care when we realized that it’s almost impossible for seriously ill kids to be cared for in their homes. We were shocked because we know all the options that are available for adults and assumed it was the same for kids. Instead, we found that because of the relatively small number of kids, dispersed across the state, who are seriously ill, there isn’t a way for any one agency to become skilled at caring for this group and their specialized needs at home. The gap is even larger in rural communities. Bear Courage through a collaborative coalition, plans to reduce the barriers to providing excellent home care for the seriously ill children of Wisconsin. |
