Choosing a solar energy system can seem overwhelming. No matter where you are in the decision-making process, the City of Madison's solar program, MadiSUN is available to help you in the following ways: Quick Solar Assessment - The Solarmap is an interactive tool that allows users to determine their solar potential and the size and cost for solar systems if they have adequate solar potential. It also includes a calculator that was designed to estimate the cost to go solar based on up-to-date incentives and average costs. The City of Madison provides FREE consultation to businesses through a "solar agent." The solar agent will provide advice on the best solar energy options for you and provide information on project planning, permitting and financing options.

Philosophy

Wisconsin is one of the leading states in terms of solar production and jobs. Through the efforts of the MadiSUN solar program, we support the continued growth of this important industry to the state. In 2011, we coordinated the WisconSUN solar project, an effort to develop the first-ever Wisconsin made solar electric system. Additionally, our solar group volume purchase programs required that participating installers have their primary business located within 150 miles of Madison and awarded extra points to businesses that used local suppliers.

History

Since 2009, with the support of the Department of Energy's Solar America Communities program, the MadiSUN Solar Energy Program has been the City of Madison's program to promote solar for homes and businesses in Madison.
