Philosophy

Part of the joy of owning a store is participating in the community- providing special services, welcoming visitors, getting to know our customers helping to raise funds for community organizations. These are all things that happen best in a locally owned shop. If there were no locally owned stores, Madison's shopping districts would look like every other city. We seek out locally owned business for our business and personal use.

History

Peg Scholtes, and her daughter Jenna Hansen have owned Capitol Kids since 2000. A move to the Capitol Square in 2002 has helped them to expand their business into a fun and thriving retail store. Peg has a long history in non-profit management and has expertise in child development. Jenna brings extensive experience in retail and managment. These experiences and the practical part - Peg is "Nana" and Jenna is "Mom" - bring a unique and personal flavor to their shop.
