HistoryGatekeepers originated in DeForest, Wisconsin from the strong, instinctual need parents have to protect their children. When the young son of Tom and Lori Mitchell (company founders and owners) fell through a gate that was installed at the top of their staircase, they realized they needed to do something more to keep their children safe. Fortunately their son was unharmed, but it prompted them to talk to Tom's brother Jon Mitchell, an accomplished woodworker, about designing and developing a new gate system.Tom Mitchell said, "After trying so many gate options, we knew there had to be a better, safer option. When my brother Jon installed the new gate system at the top of our stairs, we were amazed at how something so beautiful was also so safe and functional. Instead of feeling fearful, we started enjoying peace of mind from knowing our kids were safe when they were near the stairs. We thought, "if this gives us a strong sense of security, then many other parents could benefit from this product as well". |
