ProductsRich first started selling hemp on consignment out of friends' shops in 1994. In 1995 he began vending at festivals, and in 1997 he finally opened his long dreamt about Hempen Goods store. In June of 2003 he moved two store fronts down to his current location at 911 Williamson Street, where he fits in well nestled between independent, local coffee shops and organic food coops. Rich and his three cats remain the sole owners and employees, guaranteeing owner interaction when shopping at his store. Future plans for Rich and Hempen Goods include updating the current website on which costumers can browse and purchase some of the many products of Hempen Goods. |

PhilosophyThe fundamental philosophies behind Hempen Goods are closely aligned with those of the Buy Local. Every product in the shop must reflect an "eco aspect." More specifically, this represents an awareness of current environmental concerns, such as rapid habitat destruction, and our ability to counter this destruction through the use of alternative environmentally friendly materials, such as hemp and other organic fibers. Because Hemp is not grown in this country, not all of the products at Hempen Goods can be locally produced. However the owner's personal commitment to a Buy Local lifestyle ensures that money coming into the shop will soon be transferred back into the local economy. |

HistoryWhen Hempen Goods first opened ten years ago, the focus was strictly on hemp and its many practical uses. Today the shop has adopted a broader eco-aspect focus, becoming what could be described as an "eco fashion boutique." A wide variety of products made of various organic fibers (such as soybean, bamboo and organic cotton) and dyed with low impact methods (such as clay) line the store's shelves. At Hempen Goods one can find a little of everything: clothing for all ages, backpacks and bags of all sizes, paper and body care products, incense and drums, wallets and hats, vegan friendly footwear and more. |
