History

Created in 1941 by four Quisling doctors and their Accountant brother, they ran Quisling clinic at the corner of Wisconsin and Gorham, in need of a luxury hotel for their patients that arrived from around the world, some in sea-planes landing on Lake Mendota. Unfortunately, after laying the foundation, WWII broke out and it sat until after the war where the building resumed by Findorff and took two years to complete, opening in April of 1948. The General Manager, Augie Faulkner, previously from Chicago's famous Drake Hotel ran The Edgewater and eventually became owner until his son Scott took over as General Manager in 1982... and still is today. Mr. Faulkner Sr. got the idea to hire big bands such as Tommy Dorsey on their mid-way stop between Chicago and Minneapolis while broadcasting live over the Radio America show and then the hotel began becoming very famous with the entertainment industry. They still arrive today knowing they will get pleasant, personable and discreet first class treatment from employees that have worked at The Edgewater Hotel for multiple decades. Local repeat customers, both in the restaurant and conference services, know the employees they do business with on a first name basis. The Edgewater has continuously supported local fund raising events for many charitable organizations and the University of Wisconsin. The Edgewater plans to host the Dane Buy Local Boat Parade for many years to come and proudly is a member that supports keeping revenues, spending and taxes within our community.
