Connected by tunnel is the renovated stone horse stable, The Stable Grill, serving more casual fare at lunch and dinner. With a full menu including luncheons, dinners, sandwiches, soups, salads and appetizers, it is the perfect place for a fun casual experience. HistoryA visit to Quivey's Grove is like a journey into the past. Our two stone buildings were built in 1855 and are on the National Register of Historic Places. Serving as residence for several family’s that were prominent in Madison’s history, they were restored and renovated in 1979 by Joseph Garton and his wife Deirdre. With the help of local architect and restoration expert, Arlan Kay, the buildings came to life as a restaurant and bar in 1980, featuring the foods of Wisconsin. Supported by local foodstuffs from Barnard Orchards, Bavaria Sausage, and TeePee Produce (one of the first organic truck farms in Wisconsin), as well as trout from Rushing Waters in Palmyra, MacFarlane Pheasant Farms in Janesville, fisheries and smokehouse on the Great Lakes, local berry and mushroom collectors and growers, Quivey's Grove quickly gained a reputation for its hearty locally grown meals. In 1989, an addition to the Stable Tap and Grill was done using three barns recycled from Wisconsin’s past. With its own separate kitchen, The Stable Grill soon became equally popular to The Stone House as a place to showcase Wisconsin, just a bit more casual. So immersed is Quivey's Grove in history, the menu items in the Stone House are named for people who played prominent roles in Wisconsin’s Past, and the Stable Grill menu features the names of the pioneer settlements and early towns of Dane County. |
