Quivey's Grove has two distinct restaurants, located on five acres of colorful gardens, manicured lawns, and towering black walnut trees.  The Stone House is a restored residence with six dining rooms in the old bedrooms and parlors, decorated with quilts, hutches, and artwork from the period.  Serving Midwestern comfort food, combined with old fashioned service, it is a dining experience to remember.  Connected by tunnel is the renovated stone horse stable, The Stable Grill, serving more casual fare at lunch and dinner.  With a full menu including luncheons, dinners, sandwiches, soups, salads and appetizers, it is the perfect place for a fun casual experience.  Belly up to the pounded brass bar, serving a great selection of craft beer, fine wines by the glass, jumbo martinis, and carefully crafted cocktails.  In addition, Quivey's Grove features the Paddock, an outdoor tented area used for weddings, barbeques, company picnics, beer festivals, and outdoor dining including Friday Night Fish Fry.  Our unique facility allows us to fulfill your every dining need.

Philosophy

The menu’s at Quivey's Grove features Midwestern comfort food.  Since our beginnings almost thirty years ago, we have worked with fresh local ingredients to bring you the flavors of Wisconsin.

History

A visit to Quivey's Grove is like a journey into the past.  Our two stone buildings were built in 1855 and are on the National Register of Historic Places.  Serving as residence for several family’s that were prominent in Madison’s history, they were restored and renovated in 1979 by Joseph Garton and his wife Deirdre.  With the help of local architect and restoration expert, Arlan Kay, the buildings came to life as a restaurant and bar in 1980, featuring the foods of Wisconsin.  Supported by local foodstuffs from Barnard Orchards, Bavaria Sausage, and TeePee Produce (one of the first organic truck farms in Wisconsin), as well as trout from Rushing Waters in Palmyra, MacFarlane Pheasant Farms in Janesville, fisheries and smokehouse on the Great Lakes, local berry and mushroom collectors and growers, Quivey's Grove quickly gained a reputation for its hearty locally grown meals.  In 1989, an addition to the Stable Tap and Grill was done using three barns recycled from Wisconsin’s past.  With its own separate kitchen, The Stable Grill soon became equally popular to The Stone House as a place to showcase Wisconsin, just a bit more casual.  So immersed is Quivey's Grove in history, the menu items in the Stone House are named for people who played prominent roles in Wisconsin’s Past, and the Stable Grill menu features the names of the pioneer settlements and early towns of Dane County.
