PhilosophyBuying locally is important to us because it gives us not only the opportunity to support local producers financially, enjoy fresher foods, and minimize transportation requirements but it connects us to our community and allows us to showcase that connection to our guests. Many folks who come to stay with us are from the Chicago area. They are in desperate need of reconnecting with a real world so that they can relax and enjoy life for a short while. Serving them a tomato still warm from the summer sunshine or seeing their faces when they return from an afternoon trip to a local orchard proves how important it is to connect with the earth. That connection only occurs on a local level. |

HistoryWe opened our doors as a B&B in 2000. I needed a change from my work at a local garden center. I started out small with only 2 guest rooms in the house that we had constructed 10 years earlier. Over the years we added the 2 additional guest rooms. Bob retired from his lifelong career in 2005 and became the full-time assistant innkeeper and became heavily involved in gardening. We love what we do and feel that running The Speckled Hen Inn validates our passions. We love to cook, garden, entertain, and share what we have created here with our guests |
