Products

Trillium Natural Foods is Western Dane County's community-based grocery co-op. We have a well-rounded selection of dry goods, dairy, produce, grocery, frozen, body care and ecologically friendly household products, homeopathic remedies and natural nutritional supplements. Some of our customers are bound and determined not to have to drive to Madison for products like Potter's Crackers, Just Coffee, or 4 Elements Body Care. We have a large number of organic options including many foods for those with dietary restrictions. Looking for 25 lbs. of rice, gallons of shampoo or a pound of cinnamon? Fresh rainbow trout or smoked fish? You can order a single item not on our shelves or buy in bulk quantities. Our staff provides exceptional personalized customer service!

Philosophy

The co-op receives local produce from growers like Primrose Community Farm, Vermont Valley Farm, Blue Valley Gardens, Bures Berry Patch, Greenspirit Farm, Cold Valley Farm, Shooting Star Farm, Tipi Produce, Ela Orchard, Prairie Dock Farm, and Black Earth Valley. They are committed to quality and to fostering community relationships. Most of the co-op's local produce has traveled an average of about 11.5 miles. Apples from Ela Orchard, in western Racine County, travel 100 miles to arrive in our cooler, compared to the 1,800 miles traveled by Washington state apples. Many of these products we receive directly from the producer. We love being "taste testers" for new products... one of the many benefits of having a direct connection with your food source!

History

We really are a community co-op; not just a store. Many of us have childhood memories of knowing just about all of our members by name. After earlier lives as The Barley Stone and the General Store cooperative operated mostly by volunteers, Trillium Natural Foods incorporated in 2001 with three members from its previous board. It now has more than 230 member households and customers from Black Earth, Mazomanie, New Glarus, and Mineral Point as well as Mt. Horeb. Members receive a 5% discount and member-only specials. Parents come in and say "can I leave my pool pass for my daughter?" or they drop off a note for a frequent customer. They tell us that they feel grounded here.
