Products

This community grocery focuses on local, natural and organic foods. We have a soup and salad bar, grab 'n go deli, local dairy and artisan cheeses, fresh fish and meat (including grass-fed beef), local and organic produce, bulk foods, Wisconsin beer, wine, and more. We sponsor health seminars, parents' groups, cookouts, a 5K race, walking club, art shows and music. All are welcome to shop at the Yahara River Co-op!

Philosophy

Yahara River Grocery Co-op's mission is to "help grow a community of healthy individuals, a vigorous local economy, and a higher quality of life for our members and residents of Stoughton and Southeast Dane County through the values, products, services, and outreach of a financially sound grocery cooperative". We have a great relationship with a dozen vendors who are Wisconsin-based, including a handful located right here in Stoughton. We believe strongly in supporting local growers and producers, and in keeping the shopping dollars in this community. The Co-op participates in the "Eat Local Challenge" each fall, encouraging our members to make a majority of their meals with local foods.

History

Yahara River Grocery Cooperative opened in March, 2008. The co-op was started by a small, but very determined group of people who wanted to have a community grocery in Stoughton. This grassroots group worked hard to raise funds, locate the site, renovate it and work with the Stoughton community to create a welcoming environment. The Co-op is run by a committed board of directors, a staff of 10 and a hardy group of volunteers.
