Products

We specialize in using local wood and other natural materials to create spaces with character, feeling, and life. We harvest our own timber on family property using sustainable practices and also in customers’ own woods for use as flooring, trim, cabinets, or structural timberwork. In our projects, we seek to provide well-designed, energy-efficient homes that emphasize local and natural materials like wood, clay, straw, and stone. In addition, we offer our signature Forest in a Floor line of mixed species hardwood flooring using over 10 species in our woods to create eye-catching artisan floors. We also offer non-toxic wall finishes, decorative polished concrete, and handmade local tiles to provide a wide array of interior finishing options using local materials.

Philosophy

Buying local is a fundamental premise of our business. We use all wood that is sourced locally, either from our own managed timber or other local sources. One of our near-term objectives is to sell homes that are constructed with 80% or more Wisconsin-grown wood. Besides wood, we use local clay and straw for our wall finishes, and purchase tiles from local artisans.

History

Red Beard was founded in 2006 by Alexander Greene with his father Gordon Greene. The initial premise was on managing the family woodlot, harvesting and sawmilling it to produce hardwood flooring. Alex has grown the business into a company that specializes in putting local wood and other local natural materials to use in artisan building projects.
