In my practice, I have found that most people do not enjoy having their picture taken, so I take extra care in making it easy and enjoyable and fun for them while creating the portrait of their dreams. My distinctive technique in using the correct lighting, posing, clothing and applying the necessary technical artwork ~ and listening to my clients vision of how they see themselves in the finished portrait ~ defines my style and success in meeting my client’s desires. I do believe everyone should “love” how they look in their portraits ~ whether it is used in business, as a gift for someone special or just for their own pleasure! PhilosophyI have been buying locally both for my business and personal needs since the start of my business in 1982. Buying locally allows me to form strong relationships with other business owners in the local area, which often results in benefits for both businesses. Some concrete examples of how buying local has benefited my business and me are:- I bought health insurance from Diane Dillett of The Dillett Company and she used me to take her business portrait. - I get my nails done at Just Nails, and the owner Jan Studeville has used my business for her business portrait, various family portraits and her son’s wedding. I have found that one of the greatest benefits of buying local is the relationships that are formed with other local businesses. |

HistoryI started out my business in 1982 working on Saturdays, while still maintaining another full-time job. At that time I was the only woman in Wisconsin focusing on fantasy and boudoir photography, which was largely popular in California. These were full-body shots in very elaborate settings, reflecting photography from the 1920s and 30s in Hollywood.By 1988 I left my full-time job to focus all of my energy on my Designer Portraits business. In the mid 1990s, the photography climate changed when Glamour Shots entered the market. Although they only provided basic headshots, they were a nationally recognized company that threatened local photographers like myself. I had to start doing things different. My business underwent a change and I started doing Designer Portraits of families, children, high school seniors, weddings, and more. I offered what the national chains couldn’t, creative and unique photographs. This has been my business focus ever since, and my determination to make sure I capture each individual’s story has allowed my business to grow in this competitive field. If you look at my website you will find that no two pictures are alike because no two people are alike. |
