ProductsThe Straight Thread is a furniture upholstery workshop, offering clients superb craftsmanship in residential, commercial and custom furniture upholstery. We offer a great selection of upholstery fabrics. We take on a wide range of projects, but we especially love doing traditional upholstery using all natural padding options and time honored methods. Our shop is also proud to build custom upholstered furniture for local clients and interior designers. |

PhilosophyThe Straight Thread is located on the near East side of Madison in the vibrant Atwood Avenue business district, providing a resource for furniture reupholstery and repair in the Madison area. The workshop is an uncommon local source for hand built upholstered furniture. Buying local builds unique communities and sustainable economies. Madison is a wonderful town to own a business due to the strong support of the community in all things local. As a business and as Madison residents, we value and support other local businesses and products. |

HistoryMatthew Nafranowicz opened The Straight Thread in 2002 after he returned from a formal apprenticeship in furniture upholstery in Paris, France. Matthew had worked in the upholstery trade for some time, but the experience of working in Paris nurtured a deep commitment to the art and aesthetic of furniture upholstery. Opening the workshop in Madison provided Matthew with a way to continue the craft that he learned to love in Paris. |
