ProductsZDA is architecture for the out-of-doors. Our award-winning landscape architecture and site-planning firm specializes in garden, hardscape, and raingarden design, environmental land management planning, and site planning. ZDA's mission is to design outdoor spaces that connect, preserve, heal, and restore people and their lands. We do this by reading your landscape and understanding your goals to create sustainable and resilient designs for living, healing, working, growing, and playing. We offer design, consulting, education, and planning services to the greater Madison area and throughout the State of Wisconsin. |
PhilosophyDesigning sustainable landscapes that harmonize with their surrounding environment is ZDA's primary focus. We accomplish this by specifying local materials such as locally quarried stone, reclaimed timber, and plant materials in our designs. By specifying the finest locally grown perennials, shrubs and trees, for example, we know they are a premium product, are acclimated to our climate, reduce the potential spread of pest problems across the country, and reduce wasteful fuel consumption used in transportation while supporting our local economy. We are adamant about sustainability and resiliency, so we create individualized design solutions unique to our clients and their landscape. This approach supports local suppliers, producers and other professionals; this is our "buy local" vision. |
HistoryZDA, formerly Ziegler Design Associates, was incorporated in 2009. Ziegler Design Associates was the first formalized partnership between husband and wife design team of Steven and Joan Ziegler. Steven, a licensed landscape architect and native of Wisconsin, and Joan, a horticulturist, added another licensed landscape architect, site designers, and ecological and restoration specialists, to combine and expand their 30 years of individual experience and expertise in design, education, consulting, and planning to form the ZDA team that provides the highest quality design and consulting services. Their home base is in Middleton. |
