Products

Goodwill Industries of South Central Wisconsin sells donated brand name clothing, furniture and one-of-a-kind finds at its eight retail stores as well as through its online auction store (www.shopgoodwillmadison.com). We use the revenue generated through sales to provide programs and services for individuals with disabilities or other challenges living in Dane and 13 other counties. We offer every person the most we can for as long as they need it - a year, a decade or a lifetime.

More than 86 cents of every dollar we spend directly supports our programs and services.

Material donations are critical to our mission. Items may be dropped off at any of our attended donation centers. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Philosophy

Our mission is to build better communities by providing employment, housing and support to area individuals with disabilities and other challenges. Our ability to fulfill this mission is greatly dependent on the revenue generated through our retail stores and online auction store (www.shopgoodwillmadison.com). Nearly half of our revenue is generated through the sale of donated items.

In Dane County, Goodwill retail stores are located at:

4530 Verona Rd. (Madison's westside)

651 State St. (downtown Madison)

2127 East Springs Dr. (Madison's eastside)

2501 Royal Ave. (Monona)

History

Goodwill Industries was founded in 1902 in Boston's South End by Dr. Edgar J. Helms, a Methodist minister. He collected used household items and clothing in wealthier areas of the city, then trained the poor and immigrant to mend and repair the used goods. These items were either resold or given away to the people who needed them, and so the Goodwill philosophy of "a hand up, not charity" was born.

Goodwill Industries of South Central Wisconsin opened in Madison in 1962. Our organization is one of over 200 Goodwill chapters worldwide.
