Philosophy

The mission of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce is to support enlightened economic growth, positioning the greater Madison area as a globally competitive place to live, work, play, and do business. The GMCC welcomes and supports businesses of all sizes in our region, including the diverse community of our outstanding locally owned businesses. Eighty percent of Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce members have less than 50 employees and many of those firms are locally owned and operated. In 2005, GMCC created the Small Business Advisory Council whose members are predominantly owners of local businesses. They advise the Chamber and the Madison Mayor’s office on issues of significant importance to small business

History

Reaching back more than 140 years, the history of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce dates back to 1869, with the formation of the Madison Business Board. In 1971, after several name changes and mergers with other business associations, the name was changed to the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) in an effort to encompass the entire Madison metropolitan area. This expansion of service was to ensure the economic stability and prosperity of the metropolitan area and to develop our potential for future growth.
