WI Buy Local Campaign - our pilot program is the Dane County Buy Local Initiative, established to create a successful, visible community program and learn what needs to happen behind the scenes to assist other communities with their own buy local programs. WI Green Business Network - a statewide green business directory of products and services available to consumers and business-to-business. Entries qualify by taking a brief sustainable practices survey. Speakers Bureau - speakers available on climate change, global issues and greening local economies.

Philosophy

According to Michael Shuman, author of "Going Local: Creating Self Reliant Communities in a Global Age," the path to community prosperity is attained by nurturing locally owned businesses that serve primarily local markets. Greater self-reliance increases not only a community's control over its own destiny but also maximizes the economic multiplier, which is key for expanding local income, wealth, and jobs. Understanding how money flows within and outside the local economy can help us all make buying decisions based on an awareness of the impact of those purchase decisions on community life. We can help build community by buying local products and services and resourcing those products within our local natural resource base.

History

WI Partners for SustainAbility first formed as the WI Sustainable Futures Network in 2001. We emphasize networking, innovation and education, offering useful information on sustainable issues in Wisconsin through resources on our website and by connecting people, projects and green ideas to make green projects happen. We emphasize the "A" in "Ability" as a means of focusing on the power of individuals to take on green projects at their level of interest. By working in collaboration with organizations, businesses and other entities that already exist, we believe we can leverage resources more effectively and more creatively. "Its easy being green."
