PhilosophyAt the Great Dane Pub & Brwing Company we believe that fresh is best! That is why we brew our own beers right at the pubs and make nearly all of our food items from scratch in our own kitchens. The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company offers the locally sourced Sustain-a-Burger availbale in both grass fed beef patties and bison patties. We purchase and use Dilly Beans from Porchlight's food production program. We are partnering with several local companies including DB Chocolates who create our wonderful Beer Chocolates and Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream who make Scotch Ale Caramel Crunch with Great Dane beer. The Great Dane is committed to begin a strong corporate citizen and supports countless non-profit organizations throughout Dane County. |

HistoryThe Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company was founded by Robert LoBreglio and Eliot Butler in 1994. The two met at Vassar College as Rob was honing his home brewer skills. After graduation, Rob had his first head brewing position at a start-up brewpub in Ft. Myer's Florida, where Eliot waited tables and began to learn the restaurant management business. The two decided they would try to open a brewpub together and in January 1992 they moved to Madison. Rob and Eliot chose Madison because they loved the size and progressive nature of the community, as well as the fact that Madison has a true downtown and is not a collection of strip malls. Also, the proximity of the University of Wisconsin campus and the State Capitol seemed like strong core markets for the brewpub business. |
