Products and Services:
On 31-acres of urban property, Troy Gardens integrates mixed-income green-built housing, community gardens, an organic farm, and restored prairie and woodlands. At Troy Gardens, individual families grow their own food in 327 community garden plots. Volunteer Stewards restore and maintain a tallgrass prairie and maple woodlands. Over 100 shareholders pick up weekly bags of fresh organic vegetables from Troy Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Farm. Proud homeowners have recently purchased 30 green-built townhomes developed by the Madison Area Community Land Trust (MACLT).
Philosophy:
The mission of the Friends of Troy Gardens is to inspire people to love, care for, and steward the land. We promote community-based decision-making, participation, and leadership by a wide diversity of people in our land management and programs. Troy Gardens' land and trails are open to the public at all times.

Friends of Troy Gardens seeks to develop and steward the land in a sustainable manner, increase food security for residents of Madison's Northside and develop educational programs on nature, gardening, nutrition and the environment.
History:
Area residents had been gardening on the previously State-owned site for years. Neighbors used the open land to bird-watch, walk their dogs, and simply wander. When the State announced plans to sell the land, concerned community members, facilitated by the Northside Planning Council, began meeting and planning. Several non-profit groups - the MACLT, Urban Open Space Foundation, Community Action Coalition, and UW-Madison joined together to form the Troy Gardens Coalition, which created a plan to save the land from undesirable development. The MACLT has sold 30 townhomes, and the Friends of Troy Gardens has developed educational programs, established the CSA farm and stewarded the land.
