Sardine is housed in the historical Machinery Row building located on the shore of Lake Monona. Sardine offers an Oyster Happy Hour 4:00 - 6:00pm Tuesday thru Friday, a Brunch menu Saturday and Sunday, and Dinner service Tuesday thru Sunday. Sardine's menu offers approachable classic bistro fare: fresh oysters on the half shell, mussels and frites, charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, savory salads, fresh fish, braised and roasted meats dishes.  Sardine has a full bar that features classic cocktails, local and imported beers and an ever-changing wine list.  Sardine's service staff is knowledgable and personable. Our goal is to provide an exciting culinary experience for all of our guests.
Madison is fortunate to be surrounded by numerous local organic farmers, foragers and artisanal cheese and meat producers. Sardine utilizes these resources as often as possible. We enjoy and appreciate knowing the names of the individuals that bring their local harvest to our delivery door. The goodness of buying local extends from the dinner plate to the health of our community, economy and environment.
Co-owners and chefs, John Gadau and Phillip Hurley, culinary careers span from their native home town of Chicago to the restaurant scene of California.  They worked separately in such renowned establishments as Café Provencal (Chicago), Carlucci (Chicago), Michel Richard¿s Citrus (Los Angeles) and Judy Rodger¿s Zuni Cafe (San Francisco).
When a raw space in the historical tobacco/icehouse Machinery Row became available, Gadau and Hurley seized the opportunity to open Sardine, a lakeside bistro and bar, in the spring of 2006.
