Greg Lawless has been named the first executive director of Dane Buy Local, a network of locally owned, independent businesses that has grown to nearly 450 members.
Join us as we launch our 2nd Annual Dane Buy Local Venetian Night ~ A Boat Parade of Lights on Lake Mendota.
Local boat owners have again offered a sea of support in this very unique opportunity to help raise awareness of Dane Buy Local member businesses. Each decorated vessel will showcase a member in their own way…take advantage of this opportunity and let your creativity flow!
September 5, 2010, at DUSK, the official Dane Buy Local boat, The Grand Mariner, will depart Maple Bluff and lead forty decorated parade boats, many showcasing Dane Buy Local members. There are several prime viewing spots along the southeast shoreline of our magnificent Lake Mendota. Once the last parade boat passes the UW Memorial Union, the sky will light up with fireworks from a barge anchored off the Edgewater Hotel Pier. Our fireworks show will again be created especially for Dane Buy Local Venetian Night, compliments of Dane Buy Local member Spectrum Pyrotechnics.
Last year’s event and its theme: "What Local Business Floats YOUR Boat?" was hailed a huge success according to local media coverage. The scuttlebutt includes plans for an even bigger event in 2010 so spread the word, then come on down and celebrate local business!

Enrich the community economy. Each time money is spent at a locally-owned business, the tax stays in Dane County to support local resources such as schools, parks, police and fire...and much more.
"A local economy values the real over the virtual. An investment on a computer screen is one thing; an investment in a company in your hometown quite another." --Woody Tasch, Founder, Slow Money
