Product/Service
Higher Fire Clay Studio is a sales gallery offering beautiful and unique handmade functional pottery, ceramic sculptural pieces, and decorative and architectural tiles. Adjacent to our gallery is a welcoming, well-equipped clay studio blessed with lots of natural light. Gallery browsers watch artists at work in the studio, clay artists without access to their own studios find a creative place at Higher Fire, and adults and children take classes in various ceramic techniques: throwing on the potter's wheel, handbuilding and sculpting, and tile-making. Buying Local
Higher Fire Clay Studio features only handmade art and we are proud to showcase talented local clay artists. The majority of our artists and teachers are from Dane County. Purchasing gifts and art for your home at Higher Fire -- or taking classes in our studio -- helps local artists make a living through their art, keeps your dollars in the local economy, and promotes the longevity of a locally-owned, one-of-a-kind enterprise. History
Madison clay artist Linda Leighton opened Higher Fire Clay Studio in 1998 to provide a ceramics-focused retail shop, a clay studio for herself and other artists, and an intimate learning space for students of all ages and abilities. Higher Fire has evolved into a place where families, neighbors, and friends stop by to purchase -- or just look at -- fresh new artwork, to make their own creative clay pieces, or to simply say hello to artists working in the studio.
