Buying Local

Little Luxuries, two blocks from the Capitol at 214 State Street and across the street from the Overture Center, is a specialty gift and accessories store that has been a fixture on State Street since 1990.  Its owner, Janice Durand, worked as the first State Street Mall Coordinator in charge of events, vendors, and maintenance when the mall opened in 1979. A year later she opened The Puzzlebox, a specialty toy store that operated until 2005. State Street has been a major retail and social hub in one form or another since the city's inception.  Its local stores, restaurants, vendors and street performers define its special character and are a vital component of the city's psyche.

History

Little Luxuries has evolved from a specialty store for women selling primarily jewelry, scarves, hats and other accessories to a more general gift store serving both sexes, but primarily women. Our categories include personal accessories such as billfolds, purses, laptop sleeves and phone cases; hair accessories including barretts, headbands and hairsticks; reading glasses and sunglasses; general gifts including unusual tabletop, gadgets and games, and an eclectic selection of gift books.  We work hard to bring the best of design, function and innovation to our product mix.
